Lately we have all been hearing quite a bit about the idea of a Carbon Footprint, but what exactly does this
mean? Well, like any footprint, it's something we leave behind. Each and every one of us on Earth will leave behind a carbon footprint, which is
our "individual earth legacy" - only this legacy will be the question of how much environmental damage did we leave behind to our kids, grandkids,
and their kids. The footprint is formed by our decisions in transportation, energy, conservation, and recycling.
A formal definition of carbon footprint is the total set of greenhouse gas emissions caused directly or indirectly by an individual. The measurement
is calculated in pounds of carbon dioxide (CO
2) generated, the heat-trapping gas primarily responsible for climate change.
Carbon offsets, or the mitigation of carbon emissions through alternatives such as riding RTA versus driving a gas guzzling SUV, can be used to
reduce your carbon footprint
